Nhung said, this study derived from a folk remedy. People with diabetes should drink boiled water from the young fruit squash (Benincasa hispida). Therefore, the research team has put her melon fruit to study the topic "Building a model of diabetes disease in mice and examined the stability of blood sugar squash left early."

This study focuses on building an animal model of diabetes and application of this model to test the ability to stabilize blood sugar of medicines, in particular, young fruit squash. Animals used in this study is the type mice, disease provided by the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. Mice after making ill, would be premature to eat squash for 30 days.

In the limitations of the study period (one month), the team initially found that feeding young squash with a dose of 1g / head / day, combined with drinking water from the cooked squash with small stabilizing effect blood glucose in mice. From day 0 to day 20, the mice's blood sugar disease and decreased to 30, the blood sugar disease in mice at a not too high compared with blood glucose of normal mice (75 ± 7 mg / dl).

Diabetes is a group of symptoms related to blood sugar levels, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. According to the World Health Organization (World Health Organization - WHO), in the next 20 years, Asia alone, the number of people with diabetes up to 330 million people.

This research project has been reported in scientific conferences 6th of Natural Sciences University (VNU-HCM) held on 14/11. This conference organization for scientific research activities of two academic years 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, with nearly 390 research projects at many different levels.

From the results of the conference, the excellent report will be selected, independent reviewers to publish a scientific paper in the Journal of Science - Technology, Vietnam National University.
